about

The 2nd single we ever released on Artists Against Success featured a band called Lazer Guided. At the time we agreed to release them we had only heard rough demos of their stuff - mostly instrumental *Mr Hibbett dubbed them our "Indie Shadows" but a fearsome live show at Pymm's Wine Bar, Derby (24th June 1998 - FACT FANS) convinced us that they were worthy of our attention. Alas the paper-thin production of that single "Devotchka" somewhat limited their chances of gaining radio play, or for that matter, any fans. Meanwhile they continued to record new material and were fast becoming one of the best live bands in town.

After a slight setback (losing a guitarist to the curse of university) they returned stronger with a new member, alledgedly a huge fan (he lied - he'd only seen them play once, but really wanted to join a band) - they recorded a further split single for us "Forget To Fade Out" - this time a purple vinyl hand-numbered beauty with the Reading band Saloon who went on to top John Peel's Festive 50 the following year.

More songs were recorded and a mini album on Reveal Records was planned but never released. The band folded in 2000. Will & Ollie went on to form Stars On The Water with original Lazer Guided guitarist Phil. Matt went on to form the odd-ball fancy-dress genius of Selina Kyle and Joanne took to keyboards & percussion with Frankie Machine. Ollie & Phil then went on to become The Nightjars, with Will joining Joanne in Frankie Machine.

The two officially released singles are available on the AAS 5 Year Anniversary compilation "AAS040 No Sales:No Sellout" and a special remix of Slow Dazzle appears on our compilation "AAS021 Now That's What I Call Valid"

What you have here is the rest of their recorded output 1998-2000 plus some selected live tracks
